SHORT DESCRIPTION

CaReD (Catalysis Research Data management) is a flexible, schema-based RDM platform designed to support diverse workflows across catalysis sub-disciplines. It integrates ELN functionalities, file management, and metadata modeling aligned with FAIR principles and NFDI4Cat standards.

  • Built with Django, PostgreSQL, LinkML, and iRODS, CaReD supports metadata-rich workflows, flexible data models, and scalable backend integration.
  • Combines ELN features, inventory management, file storage, and Jupyter-based data evaluation in one cohesive environment.
  • Supports ontology alignment via Voc4Cat, future integration with PID4Cat, and export of knowledge graph-compatible data.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

  • Support various sub-disciplines in Catalysis in one system
  • An RDM toolcovering ELN features done right
  • (in line with NFDI4Cat principles)
  • Schema-based & linked-data compatible

Challenges or gaps in the current landscape.

  • No current ELN has been found to cover LIKAT needs, key points:
    • Support of chemical structures
    • Powerful authorisation/authentication/permission handling
    • Change/history tracking
    • Integration of file systems
    • Metadata schema flexibility
    • Export / API
  • Existing ELNs or sharing tools (e.g. CKAN) are not suitable to build a custom solution upon.

There is no “RDM toolbox” to assemble customized solutions for organisations like LIKAT.
