Join the 2nd Physical Sciences Joint Colloquium 2025!

We are excited to announce the second Physical Sciences Joint Colloquium of the year, hosted by FAIRmat. This event will feature an insightful lecture by Prof. Isao Tanaka from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Kyoto University.

📅 Date: April 14, 2025
📍 Location: Erwin Schrödinger Center, Room 0.119, Rudower Ch 26, 12489 Berlin & Online
🕚 Time: 11:00–12:00 CEST

🎤 Lecture: “Recommender System for Discovery of New Inorganic Compounds”
🔬 Speaker: Prof. Isao Tanaka

Prof. Tanaka will present methods for developing recommender systems that efficiently identify new chemically relevant compositions (CRCs) of inorganic ionic compounds from a vast number of possibilities. Using tensor-based recommendation models and data from the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD), his team calculated recommendation scores for up to 23 billion five-element ionic systems—achieving high discovery success rates without prior theoretical knowledge. These systems have successfully guided synthesis experiments, leading to the discovery of new oxides and nitrides, as well as optimized processing conditions for novel materials.
