From Metadata to Simulation: Connecting Data, Semantics and Workflows in Reaction Engineering
An NFDI4Cat Workshop on Metadata, ELN, and Digital Workflows in Reaction Engineering
As part of the Annual Meeting on Reaction Engineering 2026, the NFDI4Cat Workshop “From Metadata to Simulation” will take place on 26 May from 10:00–12:00, before the official start of the conference.
The NFDI4Cat initiative is driving the digital transformation of reaction engineering by linking metadata, research data (e.g. from electronic lab notebooks (ELNs)), and process simulations through semantic workflows.
This is a hands-on session: we will work with data you bring along and demonstrate, step by step, how to annotate it with the right metadata, and how to upload and document it in our Repository Repo4Cat, so it becomes easier to find, reuse, and connect to downstream workflows (including simulation).
In this workshop, you will learn to…
structure experimental data from your ELN using semantic metadata in a FAIR way
identify the essential metadata needed to make your dataset transparent, reproducible, and reusable
upload your own data to Repo4Cat and document it so others (and future you) can understand and reuse it
understand the role of ontologies/controlled vocabularies and select suitable terms to describe your reaction-engineering data
Target audience: Researchers, engineers, and industry professionals in reaction engineering and catalysis aiming to enhance data management, connect experimental and simulation data, and implement FAIR, digital workflows.
Join us to experience how NFDI4Cat makes reaction engineering FAIR, open, and data-driven — connecting metadata to simulation for a smarter research future.
