In this contribution, David Linke explores how NFDI4Cat approaches one of the central challenges in catalysis research: making data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) across a broad spectrum that spans from quantum chemistry and atomistic modeling to pilot-scale chemical processes.
Instead of enforcing a single platform approach, NFDI4Cat proposes a federated data infrastructure that connects specialized tools and methods through shared standards, controlled vocabularies, and persistent identifiers. The result: seamless collaboration and exchange between researchers, laboratories, and industrial partners – across scales and disciplines – while maintaining flexibility and autonomy.
